Hi,

Could you send us some info about how you have inserted the server data? Also the following info is worth checking:

- Is Windows firewall active? If it is, try the following test: disable firewall and test the connection in Server? Does it work?
- Is your Firebird local or remote?

Hi,
Fb and dbManager are on same machine. Remote is far for me, because i can't register server on local. I try on second machine (winXP sp1 + fb 1.5.3) and I get error like : server actively denaid to connect. On Fb2 (on anather machine): do not have enaugh rights to access security2.fdb
When I try to register local server, I accept default parameters on dialog form, add password and when I click Test button -> Not Responding after some time.
I try with firewall On and OFF with same results.

This is definitelly a server configuration problem (or something that needs to be configured). See that in both messages you have no priviledge to execute a certain operation. In this case you need to find out which priviledges are missing and GRANT them before continuing.

Which parameters did you fill in Server Manager? Is there an active FB server on the local computer? This error means that the server is not being reached by the FBCLient Library. Is it running on the same TCP/IP port?

Hi,
SORRY,
I don't know what is hepenning. In same enviroments I can connect to fb local server with IB_SQL, EMS SQL Manager trail and some other admin tools, even with dbManager Professional 3.1 freeware edition, and I made choice, but: I bay dbManager Professional 3.3 for Firebird. (download and register with lic. key) and without success on several machine (install and try connection to local fb server).
It is not error on fbClient, nor FB server. Are there some changes on connection protocol between 3.1 and 3.3 releases or freeware/lic editions.
I have not time to explore this problem.
Best regards

Hi,

Could you please send us the information you filled in in Server Manager? It would be also good to know which parameters you have used in the other tools.
This is very important so we can reproduce the same conditions.

Thanks,

PS: DBManager 3.1, 3.2 and 3.3 use the same Libraries and the same procedures to connect to the database server.

Having the same problem, I contacted DBTools support. They' re shure that everything is OK and suggest looking around Firebird server v. 1.5.3 configuration or fbclient.dll versioning incompability. I did it with no success. Trying connection to the Firebird server with option 'Interactive Login' program freezes before password dialog appears which suggest that any changes to server configuration window can't lead to successful connection. It seems to me that solulution is to wait for a next program release.

The reason why DBManager couldn't connect to Firebird server was
the space sign at FB server installation path ...\Program Files\... which was a default directory proposed by Firebirds's installer.
However, such a status was not any problem for the freeware 3.1 version of DBManager and other database GUI tools.

Hi,

That's an interesting workaround. We are investigating this. DBManager 3.x.x collects this information using the Firebird API. It tries to find the real location of the security.fdb. Maybe this APi is not working correctly under some situations. We are changing this behaviour in order to avoid the crash and allowing the security.fdb to be manually attached to DBManager. This should solve the crash.

Thanks for the feedback.

My suggestion for paja is:
- save Firebirds data in some folder without spaces or "national" characters i.e. C:\FB_data\ (if you have any created)
- deinstall Firebird
- install Firebird database, pay attention not to allow installing at default folder which contains "\Program Files\" or equivalent (use folder like C:\FB_15\)
- do not change other default setting during installation
- then you will be capable of connecting to FB server from DBManager
using account of SYSDBA and "masterkey" password (change it of course while get connected for the first time)
