Interbase Connection Error (2965 previews)
Interbase Connection Error Posted in 22th, 10/2005 05:13 by barry
Hi,
I've just started using the Full bottle DB Manager Pro. I tried to attach a local Interbase file and got the following error:

"Error loading DBIBASE.dll"

I am using the Interbase Open Source V6.0 database on a WinXP Pro SP2 machine. DBManager Professional Version 3.1.1 Enterprise Edition

Thanks in advance for any help.

Stay well,

Hi Barry,

Did you installed the Interbase component in the setup process? You can check that by just listing the DBManager installation folder and see if the following DLL's are present:

- DBIbase.DLL: DBManager component to manipulate Interbase
- GDS32.DLL: Interbase Client Library to handle connections to database server

I'm not at the office right now but first thing on Monday morning I will check the setup scripts to see if the correct files were added to the setup. Optionally you may try copying the GDS32.DLL from the Interbase directory to DBManager's folder.

Hope that helps,

Best Regards,

Hi, thanks for the reply. I re-installed the software from scratch and now at least make it a bit futher.

I get a mixture of "usename" password not regisitered (or similar :-) ) or a segmentation fault. (I'll send the dump).

I have just been using the standard SYSDBA account up til now, should I create a 'client' user for thed database. I'm sorry but Interbase is a mystery to me for now at least.

Thanks again,
Barry

It seems now that Having regisitered the interbase server, DBTools fails on start up. I cant actually get to the riught screen to remove it.

It might help if I outline what we are tryinh tyo achieve of course.

We have an Interbase database (imported in the Open Source 6.0 version from 5.6) that we need to migrate to MS SQLSERVER.

I've done the ODBC to MYSQL and can go from there to MSSQL using an Interbase ODBC connection, but I lose the referential intergrity relationships in the process. While this is not a complete show stopper at present, I'd like to be able to go straight from Interbase to MSSQL and retain relationships.

AS well, we will hopefully be doing a number of similar style transalations over the coming years and DBTools really does look like a good tool for the job.

I have a dump file but there is no way that I could see to attach it to this.

I'm more than happy to email it to you, if you want.

Stay well and thanks,
Barry

Hi Barry,

You can fix this by removing the catalog.ddb from the My DOcuments/DBToolsPro/Data folder. That way when you restart you just need to insert a new server entry. This time select the otpion tab and uncheck the autoConnect option. In case of problem this will not crash DBManager every time. If possible please send us all the info you have filled in Server Manager, we will try to reproduce the problem.

That will be much easier easier as you can simply use the Migration Wizard and copy structure, data and constraints to the other database.

Do this (of course for this you need Interbase up and running):

1) Create an empty database
2) right click it and select "Load Dump"

That would be great. We can do a test with Interbase and Firebird and see what happens. As we have a lot of database servers we can reproduce the process you trying to accomplish and see how it works.

Hi,

We have just found out that the Interbase 6 doesn't have a feature which DBManager requires to get the version info from the database.
We have updated the DBIbase.DLL so if it fails to load this information it will consider it is an Interbase 6 or older but it won't crash anymore. In case you wan't to test this new DLL please send an email to support@dbtools.com.br with the subject "Using Interbase 6" and we will send you the DLL attached.
After replacing this DLL everything should work fine.

PS: We have used Interbase 6.5 for development and this version already brings this information. For older versions this information is not available and the application may crash as a result.
